To celebrate this year's Deaf Awareness week,
WTW Cinemas will be showing subtitles screenings of "The Hitchhikers
Guide To The Galaxy" across all of its sites during Deaf Awareness
Week (2nd - 8th May). The increase in subtitles film screenings during
this week is great news for deaf and hard of hearing cinema fans who until
recently, couldn't fully enjoy the cinema.
Over 140 cinemas in the UK now offer subtitled screening of the latest blockbuster films, thanks to state-of-the-art digital subtitling equipment. This increase in subtitled screenings marks a revolution for huge numbers of would be cinemagoers across the country. Dr. John Low, Chief Executive of the Royal Institute For The Deaf (RNID) said "It's fantastic that WTW Cinemas are supporting Deaf Awareness Week. Deaf and hard of hearing people have been excluded from the enjoyment of mainstream cinema since the end of silent movies in the 1920's, so it is great news deaf and hard of hearing film fans can enjoy these latest cinema releases alongside their hearing friends and family." John Wilkinson, Head of the Cinema Exhibitors Association stated, "We are delighted to support Deaf Awareness Week. We want to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy visits to the cinema because it is such an important part of today's popular culture. Deaf Awareness week is the perfect time to raise awareness of the increasing amount of subtitles screenings being shown in cinemas across the UK." "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" (PG) opens of Friday April 29th at The FilmCentre, St. Austell, The Plaza, Truro and The Regal, Wadebridge.
