On Sunday 15 February 1998, GM Michael Adams, the world number 15 at the time, became the third top British Grand Master to visit Brynmawr Chess Club at the Lever Hall in Ebbw Vale. He took on 38 players, losing to only one (Nigel Granville of Newport Chess Club) and drawing with two (Paul Orton of Newcastle Emlyn and Nigel Saunders of Monmouth). Another player, Bob Hurn of Caerphilly missed a win and then a forced draw before losing. The games of Granville, Orton, Saunders and Hurn are all included in the database of the simultaneous games. If you have a copy of any of the missing games, please send them to me. Here are some photographs from the event. Click on each to see the full image. |
